Ahmed Hegazi has joined West Bromwich Albion on a season long loan from Egyptian side Al Ahly, who he had been on loan at for the past two seasons. Since arriving at Fiorentina for € 1.5M back in 2012 from Egyptian side Ismaily, Hegazi had a miserable time at the Italian club since his arrival back in 2012, with injuries hindering his progress. After 3 tough years from 2012-2015, Hegazi was shipped out to Serie B side Perugia for one season and then to Egyptian side Al Ahly for the following two seasons.

Hegazi showed promise during the African Cup of Nations, where Hegazi starred at right back with his native country Egypt, helping the team finish runners up to Cameron, with his performances eventually seeing him selected in the team of the tournament. Hegazi played 6 times during the tournament but failed to score or assist.

At 6ft 5, Hegazi is a giant defender and can play at centre back, allowing Tony Pulis the chance to continue playing a narrow back four which the Welshman adopts in his tactics. Having played Craig Dawson and Allan Nyom at right back for the past few seasons, Hegazi might be able to replace or become a squad rotation player along with the 27 year old and 29 year old respectively.

Tony Pulis had this to say about his latest addition to the Baggies team,

“He’s a good addition. He’s got good pedigree and played for some good clubs,” said Baggies boss Tony Pulis.

“If he does well, we’ve already agreed a final deal. It’s really, really good for us.”

West Brom have an option to buy the versatile Egyptian should Hegazi impress during his loan spell at The Hawthorns.
