Watford have today announced Walter Mazzarri’s successor at Vicarage Road – former Hull boss Marco Silva.

The 39-year-old had impressed over the course of the second half of the season, despite The Tigers not being able to avoid the drop. Silva earned 21 points in 18 games, with the majority of those coming at home. Whilst Mazzarri’s men had ended the season on a six-game losing streak.

Watford Chairman Scott Duxbury said that:

“Silva is one of the most sought after head coaches in the Premier League. His pedigree and promise speak for itself with his achievements in top divisions elsewhere across Europe, as well as his work at Hull City last season.”

Silva had been in the middle of hot speculation about his future, with other clubs such as Southampton and Porto appearing to have been in the hunt for his signature.

His new contract will see him with the Hornets until 2019, and will take effect on the 1 July.
