Walter Mazzarri has revealed his belief that Watford’s owner Gino Pozzo is “happy” with his first season in charge despite some reports claiming that he could be sacked at the end of the season.

The club are currently 10th in the Premier League with only five games left to play and look to have cemented their position in next season’s campaign. Albeit, reports in both his homeland Italy and also in England have claimed that even finishing higher in the table than last season’s 13th may not be enough to keep Mazzarri in his job.

Speaking ahead of Watford’s Monday Night Football clash with Liverpool, who will be hoping to keep their spot in the top 4 ,the Watford manager went on to say:

“On the basis of what has happened through the season, when you see all the injuries we have had, I think [the owner] is quite happy.”

“Our target was to be mathematically safe and we still are not mathematically safe. We’re very near safety and that was our target for this season.”

“We’ve been here before and know that every match is important. We want to do better and better and value every performance.

“It’s clear that when we lose games we should have won, we’re not very happy.”
