Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross will be offered a new contract to stay at the club as revealed by current manager Mark Hughes. Newly promoted Newcastle United are reportedly interested in the defender, who will be entering the final year of his current contract next summer.

Mark Hughes is aiming to keep the captain at the club for years to come and insists that he sees a future for the defender at the club:

“There’s not an issue, not from our point of view. We certainly want to keep Ryan here if we can, We don’t usually enter into negotiations until there are 12 months to go.”

“Sometimes that can help the players because sometimes more power goes to the player the closer you get to the end. There are two ways to look at it.”

Stoke travel to the Vitality Stadium on Saturday to face Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side, who sit 10th in the Premier League table. Ryan Shawcross will have to set his eyes upon in-form Joshua King, who has bagged 15 goals this season – more than Jermaine Defoe, Christian Benteke and Jamie Vardy.
