Celtic suffered their worst ever defeat in European football last night at the hands of a new-look Paris Saint-Germain side. The front-three of Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Edinson Cavani all scored in the first half on their way to a 5-0 romp.

It was quite the education for 18-year-old Anthony Ralston, but the teenager didn’t seem unnerved by facing up against the world’s most expensive ever player. Ralston duelled all night with the Brazilian hitting a number of tough tackles.

As the night went on Neymar got more and more frustrated with Ralston unyielding defending, and after the third goal even mocked Ralston by holding up three fingers to his face, to which Ralston responded with laughter. Neymar was eventually booked for diving.

Despite the ease of PSG’s win, Ralston had Neymar riled up so much throughout the match that the former Barcelona star refused to shake Ralston’s hand at the end of the game. This didn’t seem to bother Ralston.

“I wasn’t a big deal. I don’t dwell on that too much. If that is the case, and that is the way he wants to be, then fine. I don’t care. Like I said, everybody is different, so I won’t lose any sleep over it,” the teenager said.

“I didn’t fear the likes of Neymar. I didn’t dwell on it too much. I just knew I had to play my normal game. I prepared for him [Neymar] the way I’d prepare for any normal game.”

“I did exactly the same routine. It’s just another man on the pitch you are playing against. I don’t put him on a pedestal. You just deal with it.”

Ralston, who was a ball-boy during Celtic’s famous 2-1 win over Barcelona in 2012, described playing in a Champions League match as a dream. And despite the scoreline, Ralston’s performance against Neymar has turned him into a cult hero at Celtic Park. Ralston will be relishing a chance to face Neymar again at the Parc des Princes, but it’s unlikely Neymar will be looking forward to seeing Ralston’s face anytime soon.
