Manchester United News Transfer Rumours

Manchester United have cooled their interest in Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, stating that they would rather pursue a number 9 type player than a 10 with a source close to the club saying that Griezmann is not a top priority for Manchester United this summer anymore.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s long-term injury at the club, José Mourinho has to re-think about his summer transfer targets. The Manchester United boss reportedly wants to keep the former Swedish international with talks set to happen between the club and his agent Mino Raiola.

United have been debating if they should trigger the release clause of the Frenchman for several weeks, with the buyout clause being 87 million pounds. However, United have seemingly ended their pursuit for Atlético Madrid’s main man.

With Atlético having their transfer ban upheld until January of 2018 by The Court of Arbitration for Sport, it could have put Mourinho off a move for the striker as the Spanish club will not want to sell the player due to not being able to replace him. However, Griezmann does have a £86m release clause that could be triggered, meaning Atlético would be helpless their number 7 wanted to leave the club. It seems as though Manchester United have opted against that option, though.

Griezmann has scored 16 goals in La Liga this season, assisting eight to his Los Rojiblancos team-mates. In all competitions, the French international has scored 26 times and assisted on 12 occasions.

As for United’s potential targets for a number 9 this summer, the club have been heavily linked again with Everton and Belgian star Romelu Lukaku as well as Real Madrid and Spain striker, Alvaro Morata.
