Manchester City News Transfer Rumours

Manchester City are reportedly close to signing Monaco’s Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, according to Spanish reporter Gerard Romero.

The 23-year-old played a key role in Monaco’s season which saw them win Ligue 1 for the first time in 17 years and was also pivotal in their Champions League campaign, providing 2 assists and a goal against the City in the round of 16. They eventually progressed on away goals with a 6-6 aggregate score.

After signing for Monaco in 2013 on loan from Rio Ave, Fabinho made the move permanent in 2015 and despite his deep-lying position, he has managed to score 22 goals in 183 appearances.

The midfielder can also play as a right back and would likely start there for City after they announced club legend Pablo Zabaleta would leave the club after 9 years when his contract expires at the end of the season. Gerard Romero previously reported the transfers of Leroy Sane, Claudio Bravo and John Stones to Manchester City, and therefore the Spaniard’s reliability shouldn’t be questioned.

Manchester United were also reportedly interesting in the Brazilian, known for his versatility, Fabinho was also said to have been an option to replace Michael Carrick. However, it seems Fabinho will be heading to the blue side of Manchester, as Pep Guardiola eyes a return to winning trophies.
