Barcelona Manchester City News Transfer Rumours

In a new documentary set to air on Catalonian TV, Lionel Messi reportedly called his old boss Pep Guardiola only days after the Spaniard became manager of Manchester City. After missing a penalty in the Copa America final against Chile, Messi was then hit 10 days later with a tax fraud allegation which made him feel “trapped” at the Camp Nou.

Messi’s father, who is always involved in deals for his son as his agent, apparently spoke to Manchester City executive director Ferran Soriano about a potential move to the Etihad.

The five time Ballon D’or winner was so keen on a move, he travelled to meet Guardiola who was on holiday back in Spain. When Messi’s father told the Barcelona hierarchy of the pair’s decision to move onto a fresh challenge, they were immediately denied, with Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu telling Jorge Messi that his son was not for sale unless Manchester City met the £219 million release clause.

Luis Suárez also spoke to his South American compatriot, urging him to stay at Barcelona which played a role in the Argentinian signing a new contract to 2021 with the Catalan side. Pep Guardiola will still be monitoring the situation and would dream of a reunion at some stage, admitting back in 2016 that he would love to sign the player if he eventually wanted to leave the Spanish giants.
