Borussia Dortmund v Liverpool – Match Preview
Apr 5, 2016

Liverpool face a huge challenge on Thursday night, away to Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the quarter finals of the Europa Cup.

Dortmund, slayers of Tottenham Hotspur in the last round, are an excellent side, they lie currently second in the German Bundesliga and any team in Europe, who played Dortmund at their home ground, Westfalenstadion, would be in for a difficult night, so massive challenge for The Reds.

The German side are stacked with good players such as Mats Hummels, Sokratis, the Greek defender who I rate highly, midfielders, Ilkay Gundogan, Shinji Kagawa, Sven Bender and Henrik Mkhitaryan. Then after those star studded players you add Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang into the mix. A fine side. Unbeaten in last 20 matches, last 13 all wins.

So seeing I have set the scene for Dortmund, and lauded their current run of form and the players they have at their disposal, do I see Liverpool having no hope? No not at all, Liverpool have the players to trouble them, and it will be interesting to see how Jurgen Klopp, the returning hero of Dortmund, sets the team up on Thursday night.

Does he trust the team to be strong enough defensively, to be mentally switched on, be cautious and play on the counter?  Or play to the team’s strengths, allow players such as Coutinho and Firmino if fit, to express themselves and try to get at least one away goal which could be crucial when the tie is completed back at Anfield week Thursday?

It will be a massive challenge and should be a tremendous atmosphere in the stadium, both sets of fans have fantastic support, and with Klopp returning to Dortmund for the first time should be quite a spectacle.
