Edinson Cavani is set to join a growing list of Paris Saint-Germain players missing their Champions League fixture versus Manchester United, with the first-leg on Tuesday night.

The Uruguayan opened the scoring against Bordeaux from the penalty spot, but minutes before half-time he was replaced by Kylian Mbappé after falling to the ground holding his thigh.

The Parisian club released a statement on Sunday reading: “The examinations carried out revealed a lesion of a tendon on the right hip. The treatment and the duration of unavailability will depend on the recovery in the coming days.”

After the 31-year-old’s injury, PSG will be without his presence up-front along with Thomas Meunier’s absence in defence, also through injury having gained a concussion and Neymar’s was ruled out of both legs through a reoccurrence of a metatarsal injury. Marco Verratti is also a doubt for Thomas Tuchel’s side, giving Ole Gunnar Solskjær and United additional confidence that they can gain a positive result at Old Trafford.

The impotence on Mbappé to provide a stellar performance will be greater given the absence of Neymar and Cavani and many are already looking forward to the battle between the French World Cup winner and Marcus Rashford.
