Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has slammed the media over creating speculations of a spat following last weekend’s penalty incident between the pair. The French side won 2-0 against Lyon but the win was marred by an apparent on field spat between Neymar and Cavani.

The first incident coming over a free kick which was intervened by Dani Alves, who seemed to favour Neymar to take it, though he has since admitted wanting it himself. The second, a penalty which Cavani took after Neymar had showed his intent to do so. The penalty was subsequently saved.

Speaking to RMC, Al-Khelaifi said: “No, there’s nothing. It’s you, the media, who are making problems.”

These comments came after L’Equipe claimed the duo had to be calmed down in the dressing room after the final whistle as their row continued, while Spanish media house claimed Neymar had asked PSG to sell Cavani.

Unai Emery later clarified the whole situation in his press conference. saying: “Penalties will be taken by a couple of players. One is Edinson and the other is Neymar. There needs to be a gentlemen’s agreement on the pitch when it comes to taking spot kicks.”

“Apart from that, we will have to arrange things internally for when we get penalties because I believe that both are capable of converting them and I want them to alternate with this exercise.”

L’Equipe has also reported that Neymar and Cavani will sort out their differences in the meeting with PSG’s sporting director Antero Henrique and coach Unai Emery on Wednesday afternoon.

Uruguay legend and former Atlético Madrid and Manchester United striker, Diego Forlán, claimed that this would not have happened had Messi been in place of Cavani and it must be upto the coach to decide who gets to take the penalty kick, saying“There are egos everywhere, but there has to be respect for Cavani.”

“He is the PSG goal scorer. When you arrive in a team you have to show respect. I understand that Neymar is Neymar, but Cavani is Cavani and each one has his place.”
