Leicester City have confirmed that they have rejected a bid from AS Roma for Algerian winger, Riyad Mahrez. Manager Craig Shakespeare earlier in the week announced that no offers had been made for the talisman winger, but this has now changed.

With AS Roma losing their own tricky winger Mohamed Salah to Liverpool, the Italian team are looking to bolster their attack for the upcoming season, especially out wide. Having finished 2nd last season in Serie A, only four points behind Juventus, Roma know they need to strengthen their side for the new Champions League season whilst also continuing to chase down the Turin side and win back the title, something they have failed to do since the 2000/2001 season.

Mahrez’s future is in the air at the moment, having announced that he wanted to part ways with the one time Premier League winners back in May. However, the ex-PFA winner signed a new contract deal back in August 2016, meaning he’s tied down to the club till 2020. With such a long term contract in place, it is rumoured the Midlands side want £50 million for the winger but Roma did not match that estimation with Shakespeare saying, “The bid was politely declined because it was a low offer“.

Roma may go back in with a higher offer, with the Salah deal raising £36.9 million, whilst Tottenham will also be on red alert to the news that Leicester are listening to bids for the player.
