FIVE Serie A Gems Your Premier League Club Should Sign This Summer

Serie A may not be everyone’s favourite European league, but there is no doubt that this season the Italian top division has showcased some outstanding talents. There are many that have gone under the radar hidden under the shadow of bigger name players. Here are five hidden gems that could make the move to England this Summer.

Lorenzo Pellegrini – US Sassuolo

Since getting promotion to Serie A, Sassuolo have been lauded for their development of young Italian players, one of their major success stories has been Lorenzo Pellegrini. Sassuolo paid just €1.25 million to Roma in the Summer of 2015 to sign Pellegrini. Since joining the club Pellegrini has established himself as a key player in Eusebio Di Francesco’s side due to his energetic presence in midfield and cultured passing ability.

At 20-years-old, Pellegrini will only continue to improve and develop his game further as he has this season by adding goals to his game scoring 7 goals this season in all competitions. Any team in the Premier League looking for a central midfielder should look at Lorenzo Pellegrini as he will certainly be a star in the future and can contribute a lot to a team immediately.

Andrea Conti – Atalanta

A product of the famed Atalanta academy, Conti is a versatile player who plays primarily at right-back but can also play on the right side of midfield. Conti has been an instrumental part of the Atlanta team who have overachieved this season and are fighting for a European place in Serie A. Conti has scored 4 goals and contributed 4 assists this season, Conti is an excellent interceptor of the ball and would be very well suited to a team that plays a high pressing game.

The defender has been linked with Antonio Conte’s Chelsea this season and a Summer move has been talked of, Conti would certainly be the ideal fit for Antonio Conte’s Chelsea team.

Giovanni Simeone – Genoa

The sun of Atletico Madrid manager Diego, Giovanni Simeone joined Genoa in the Summer of 2016 from River Plate in Argentina. The striker did not really cut it at the Argentine giants but has been a revelation since moving to Serie A. Simeone is now the main striker leading the line for Genoa having scored 10 goals in 27 games this season. Known for his energy up front and work rate Simeone is a pacey striker who provides a constant threat to opposing defences.

The Argentine possesses great technical ability and will certainly be a wanted man this Summer. Simeone could certainly cut it at Premier League level and would be well worth a punt from a Premier League club this Summer.

Luis Muriel – Sampdoria

Luis Muriel has been playing his trade in Serie A for 7 years with Udinese and Sampdoria. The striker possesses great pace and is a clinical finisher. So far this season the Colombian has scored 12 goals and contributed 5 assists for his team-mates. Muriel is well known for his long distance shooting and the Columbian scored an incredible free-kick against Roma in January which showcased his ability. An excellent dribbler of the ball combined with his pace means Muriel would be well suited to the Premier League. As a proven goal scorer combined with his attributes, Luis Muriel would certainly be the ideal option to lead the line for many Premier League clubs.

Francesco Acerbi – Sassuolo

One of the rising stars of Italian football, Francesco Acerbi has established himself as one of the finest defenders in Serie A in recent seasons. The central defender has been in fine form this season as one of Sassuolo’s most important players. Acerbi has already been capped by his country Italy, winning his first cap back in 2014. Despite his fine form Acerbi has not yet moved from Sassuolo as they continue to grow as a club and within Serie A. Leicester were linked with a move for Acerbi in January but a move did not materialise. It is now thought that bigger clubs will come in for Acerbi this Summer with some of Italy’s biggest clubs known to be admirers.

A Premier League club looking for a defensive leader should certainly be interested in Francesco Acerbi, he is a player who could thrive in the hustle and bustle of the Premier League and would improve many of the defences in England’s top flight.
