Dele Alli has been likened to having the ‘swagger’ of a Brazilian by Roberto Carlos, a Brazil legend himself.

England head into the World Cup off the back of a string of successive underwhelming international tournaments, but the Three Lions will enter the tournament being hosted in Russia hoping to at least get out of the group stage unlike four years ago in Rio.

Despite being drawn in a group alongside fellow giants Belgium, Gareth Southgate’s men are still huge favourites to advance to the Round of 16 at the expense of minnows Panama and Tunisia.

Carlos, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, has tipped Alli to be at the forefront of any potential success the 1966 winners may have.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror the 45-year-old said, “England are one of the favourites after Brazil. But I really like Dele Alli – he’s a lot like a Brazilian player.”

“I saw him at the Real Madrid against Spurs game and he was really impressive. He’s tall and has real ability – a very good player. He has the swagger that Brazilians have.”

The Tottenham midfielder has already defiantly staked the claim that England are heading to Russia this summer with the intention of winning the competition.
