Dmitri Cheryshev claims that there are many better goalscorers at the World Cup than Mohammed Salah. His son, Denis Cheryshev, is set to face the Egyptian forward this Tuesday.

Ahead of the clash, Cheryshev says that Salah is an “exceptional player but not a world-class football star” and believes the Egyptian is not capable of winning the Golden Boot in Russia.

Salah scored 44 goals for Liverpool last season as he led the Reds to a Champions League final. However, an unfortunate injury suffered in that fixture prevented Salah from starting in Egypt’s World Cup opener against Uruguay.

Salah is officially fit to start against the hosts on Tuesday. He will look to inspire The Pharaohs to their first win of the tournament. The former Russia international Cheryshev is sceptical about whether Salah will be the same player for his country as he is at club level.

Cheryshev said, via KingFut: “He is an exceptional player, but [he is] not a world-class football star who can compete for the [World Cup] Golden Boot. Right now [the contenders for the award] are Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar and maybe [Harry] Kane.”

Liverpool use Salah properly, here, in the Egyptian national team, things will be different.”

Russia face Egypt at the Saint Petersburg Stadium hoping to seal qualification with another three points. Cheryshev’s son, Denis, will be hoping that Salah doesn’t take his father’s criticism personally.
