Chelsea have reportedly agreed a fee with AS Roma for the transfer of former Manchester City striker Edin Džeko.

Sky Italia are reporting that the reigning Premier League champions have finally matched the Italian clubs asking price of €50million with an extra €10million in bonuses, that will see both Džeko and his Roma teammate Emerson Palmieri make the move to England.

A recent call from Antonio Conte is thought to have persuaded Džeko to make the switch, however, personal terms are likely to be stalled until tomorrow due to Roma’s game against Sampdoria tonight – a match that the Bosnian is likely to play some part in.

There is hope on all sides that a deal will be completed before Friday, with the potential for Džeko to feature in Chelsea’s FA Cup 4th round tie at home to Newcastle if he is registered before 12pm.

The length of contract that Džeko will receive remains unknown, as Chelsea primarily only hand out one-year deals to incoming or current 30+ year old’s that are at the club. The former Wolfsburg hitman turns 32 in March, so it remains to be seen whether the 2012 European champions do break their contract policy to secure the deal.

Conte had been on the lookout for a target man striker since the summer, but Chelsea were ultimately pipped to the signing of Fernando Llorente on deadline day by London rivals Tottenham. However, with Chelsea’s current striking options, Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi, currently misfiring, the charismatic Italian and his team of scouts have been searching for someone to fill the void.

The Blues had been linked with the likes of Andy Carroll, Ashley Barnes and even Peter Crouch earlier on in the window, but it now seems inevitable that Džeko will return to the Premier League after a successful spell in Italy.

Džeko has established himself as a crucial part of the Roma team since arriving from Manchester City in August 2015 and has been directly involved in 64 Serie A goals (46 goals, 18 assists) in that time – 18 more than any other Roma player.
