Chelsea Featured Transfer Rumours

What a tremendous season it has been for Antonio Conte and Chelsea football club. After last season’s nightmarish campaign, Conte has effectively turned things around in spectacular fashion. The Blues were the standout performers of the 2016/2017 Premier League campaign winning a record 30 games in the league. But given the incredible level of competition in the Premier League, Conte cannot afford to rest on his laurels. With the added benefit of Champions League football next season, Chelsea need to reinforce their squad in the hope of competing with the European giants. Here are five players that could join the West London team next season.

5. Virgil Van Dijk

With John Terry leaving the club this summer, Antonio Conte will be on the lookout for a top class centre-back to replace the legend. And Southampton’s Van Dijk could be the perfect replacement. The Dutch defender has put up some impressive performances for the Saints this season, with many pundits hailing him as one of the Premier league’s best defenders. At just 25 years of age, the young centre-back has attracted interest from England’s top clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. But Chelsea has sufficient funds to ward off interest from their rivals and snatch away the talented defender.

4. Leonardo Bonucci

Another defender that could join Stamford Bridge next season is Juve’s Leonardo Bonucci. The Italian Centre-back is arguably the world’s best defender and is a huge admirer of Antonio Conte. The pair worked together at Juventus and with the Italian national team where they enjoyed a wonderful relationship together. Conte will be keen to bring Bonucci to west London, as he could serve as the ideal replacement for the departing Blues captain, John Terry. But Chelsea will have a hard time trying to lure the Italian to England, as Juventus have publicly stated that they are reluctant to sell their star defender. A fee in excess of 50 million might be required to secure the deal.

3. Kylian Mbappé

Chelsea will be on the lookout for a young forward to bolster their attacking options. And Kylian Mbappe perfectly fits the bill. The teenage sensation has endured an astronomical rise to stardom. His exploits in the French league have helped Monaco in securing the Ligue 1 title. Mbappe was also instrumental in the French team’s impressive run in the Champions League this season. With an array of skills at his disposal, Mbappe has what it takes to reach the pinnacle of world football. The young French forward has attracted heavy interest from the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United etc.  But with the right offer on the cards, Mbappe could join Antonio Conte at Chelsea next season.

2. Alvaro Morata

With heavy rumours of Diego Costa leaving the club for the far east, Chelsea will go all out in the transfer season to find an able replacement. Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata could serve as a more than capable successor. The young Spanish forward has found it hard to break into Real Madrid’s first team, constantly featuring on the bench.

The Spaniard will be eager for more game time and is prepared to leave his boyhood club for better opportunities. Chelsea had attempted to sign Morata last summer but the proposed move broke down. But the 24- year old has strongly hinted that he could move to Chelsea after showering Conte with warm words of appreciation in a recent interview.

“I feel indebted to him because he’s the coach that most trusted in me, most wanted me, who made me feel I could perform at the highest level.

“Yet I’ve never had the fortune to actually work with him. I’m sure sooner or later I will,” said Morata.

However, Chelsea will have to act fast as it seems Morata could be on his way to AC Milan.

1. Romelu Lukaku

Another forward who could join Stamford Bridge next season is the former Chelsea man himself, Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has been in scintillating form this season scoring 25 goals in the Premier League. Lukaku had an unsuccessful first stint with Chelsea failing to make a desirable impact. But the 24- year old still believes that he has unfinished business at the Bridge and will be keen to rejoin the Premier League champions.

Reports suggest that Lukaku will not sign a new contract with Everton as he is keen to play in the Champions League next season. The young striker is strong, quick and clinical in front of goal. His Premier League experience also serves as an added advantage for Chelsea. However, Everton will not let their star man go so easily. Roman Abramovic should be prepared to break the bank if he hopes to re-sign Lukaku in the summer.
