Bayern Munich are plotting a move for Manchester City winger Leroy Sané with the German falling out of favour with Pep Guardiola this season.

Sané is yet to agree terms on a new contract to extend his three-year stay at the Etihad Stadium and with just two-year’s remaining on his current deal, City are making contingency plans to avoid letting the lively winger leave on the cheap, according to the Daily Mail.

Despite registering 10 goals and 15 assists last season and playing a leading role in City becoming the first team in English top-flight history to reach the 100-point mark, Sané’s game time has dramatically depleted this season.

In 2017/18 the 23-year-old clocked up 2423 minutes of football in the Premier League, but that has dropped to a much lower figure of 1867 throughout this campaign.

Towards the latter stages of the season, Sané has been mostly used as a second-half substitute by Pep Guardiola and cut a forlorn figure as an unused substitute on the bench against Brighton last Sunday.

Questions over the German international’s attitude has been the centre of reasoning for his lack of starting opportunities over the past few months.

Reaching double digits for both goals and assists for the second successive season, the former Schalke wonderkid remains one of the brightest young prospects in European football and would have plenty of suitors if he was to depart Manchester.

The reigning German champions are looking to bolster their wide options with long-serving duo Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry set to end their prolonged stays at the Allianz Arena this summer.

Although Bayern are poised to retain their Bundesliga title for the seventh consecutive season, the team’s disappointing display in the UEFA Champions League – which saw them knocked out in the round of 16 by finalists Liverpool – has forced club chiefs into immediate action in the transfer market.

Coincidentally, Bayern came close to signing Sané back in 2016, but the German opted to move abroad and join Guardiola’s rebuild of the Citizens.

Bayern have already confirmed the summer arrivals of defender’s Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid and Benjamin Pavard from fellow domestic side VfB Stuttgart, as under pressure manager Niko Kovač looks to revamp an ageing squad.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have already hatched plans to improve their attacking options during the upcoming window and Benfica’s next potential big star in João Félix is reportedly on their radar.

The 19-year-old has endured a breakout season with the Portuguese side in the Primeira Liga this season.

21 goal contributions in 25 league appearances has risen him to the forefront of many top club’s shopping lists and Guardiola has identified Félix as one attacker who could help maintain City’s recent dominance on English football.
