Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger has responded to José Mourinho’s claims that Manchester United have not spent enough by saying Arsenal have been at a financial disadvantage for 21-years.

Mourinho, whose comments came after his side drew 2-2 with Burnley, insisted rivals Manchester City ‘buy full-backs for the price of strikers’.

Wenger, however, has dismissed Mourinho’s claim by suggesting the Gunners haven’t been able to compete with clubs above them for two decades.

“I have been in that position for 21 years so I will not start to complain now,” the Frenchman told the Metro.

“I have always had one team at least – sometimes four – who were richer than I was, so I learned to cope with that and deal with that.”

“What is most important is that you deal with your own situation as well as you can and, yes, Manchester City are richer than us and, yes, Chelsea is richer than us and, yes, Manchester United are richer than us. But I still believe we have to find a way to be successful.”

A win for Manchester City tonight against Newcastle will see Guardiola’s men move 15 points clear of United and 24 ahead of Arsenal with 18 games still to play.
