Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger, is set to stay at the Emirates amidst much speculation about his future over the course of the season. It is reported that he has verbally agreed to a two-year deal which will keep him at the Emirates till 2019, stretching his remarkable stay at the club to 23 years.

The contract is yet to be ratified at a Board Meeting scheduled at lunch time today, but that remains merely a formality. Wenger has been at Arsenal since 1996 and has won three Premier League titles and recently became the manager to win the most number of FA Cups, winning seven.

Wenger has come under heavy criticism in the recent past for not being ambitious in running the club and a huge section of fans have called for his sacking. The criticism intensified after it became apparent that the club would not able to qualify for the Champions League, for the first time under Arsène Wenger. However, a good run of form with 9 wins out of 10 and an FA Cup win has pacified the fans.

The Board will also discuss hierarchical changes with speculations suggesting that the board might be interested in appointing a sporting director to look over scouting and analytics. Arsène, however, has clearly ruled out the possibility of appointment of a sporting director.  He, recently, in a press conference said:

“I’m the manager of Arsenal Football Club and as long as I’m manager of Arsenal Football Club, I will decide what happens on the technical front. And that’s it.”

With the announcement set to be made on Wednesday, it will be interesting to see the fans’ reaction. It will also be important to see if Alexis Sánchez and Mesut Özil finally commit their long-term future at Arsenal now, with Arsène Wenger finally staying.
