After 11 months out of management, Pardew may be set to take the job after this weekend. Pardew met with club chairman John Williams on Thursday and his appointment is likely to be confirmed on Monday.

The former Crystal Palace was one of the early favourites for the job after Tony Pulis was sacked this week after a poor start to the season and Albion fans growing tired of the football the Welshman was displaying.

If Pardew is appointed this weekend, his first two games will be against two of his former clubs; West Brom face Newcastle at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night before taking on Crystal Palace – who sacked Pardew in December – on Saturday.

Other potential contenders for the Albion job, such as Martin O’Neill, Sam Allardyce, and Nigel Pearson, were unavailable or unwilling to take over. Earlier this week, former West Ham manager Slaven Bilić turned down the baggies job as he is keen to take a hiatus.
