Watford Vs Bournemouth: Asking The Fans

Watford Vs Bournemouth: Asking The Fans
Feb 26, 2016

Watford

I asked three Watford fans the same set of questions on the game vs Bournemouth to see their opinions on certain topics. These were their answers.

@HTAM96

Are you confident that Watford could finally break the run of their poor form against Bournemouth at home, considering the difference of points between the two sides?

Yes I am. If we play like we did against Crystal Palace we can easily beat Bournemouth. However, Bournemouth are a very good team, no matter how many points they have, and are used to playing against Watford, especially Eddie Howe. From a Bournemouth perspective, they will be looking back to October when they drew against us and will try and build on that. Nevertheless, Watford are in a much stronger position than we were in October and have strengthened our side as well. For me a draw would be disappointing. I Predict a 2-1 Watford. Troy Deeney with both goals.

Benik Afobe and Iturbe, who Watford opted out of signing on loan, are likely to start or be in the squad for the game. How much of a threat do you think they bring?

Both are absolutely fantastic players of which I would love to have at Watford if it weren’t for their price tag and mentality. They are both very big threats to our defence, but our back 4, no matter who QSF picks has shown time and time again that they are astute no matter the opposition. I would prefer Nyom and Ake at the full back slots with Proedl and Cathcart in the centre. Proedl for me should be in there for the way that he dealt with Costa and hopefully he can translate that to dealing with Afobe.

What in the Crystal Palace game do you want to see replicated to the game vs Bournemouth?

Firstly, more videos from Obbi Oulare (Referring to his clip where he was with the fans Vs Crystal Palace). Secondly the work rate from the players. Some said that Amrabat disappointed on the day, but he’s only played a few games. It was the work rate and pressing that I enjoyed from the players. The Crystal Palace game was refreshing as it felt like a new slate after the games against Southampton, Swansea and Spurs were we didn’t show anything.

Does the Ighalo ‘goal drought’ worry you? Or do you think people are overreacting as Deeney didn’t score until October?

If the drought were in October then I’d be worried. Luckily we are safe, bar a point or two, so it isn’t as much of a concern. It is still concerning though that we only have two goal scorers. I think that own goals are our third biggest goal contributor. We need someone to pop up and score a goal or two, but I’m sure that Ighalo will score before a monstrous bid comes in in the summer. If Troy or Odion were to get injured then we couldn’t be facing a few games losing on the trot.

Odion Ighalo

Now that Watford are realistically safe, do you think we should start playing Oulare, Berghuis and Guedioura?

Guedioura just isn’t good enough for me. He is a very good championship player. I love the guy, we all do but he just isn’t good enough I’m afraid. Berghuis and Oulare could do with a couple of substitute appearances to get a bit of game time. A loan would do both of them the world of good. English football is different to Belgian and Dutch football so a loan to a championship club would be a good idea I think. Ideally a team like Ipswich or Birmingham. A team that harbours play off ambition but could probably do with a couple more players to solidify a promotion push. Teams like Middlesbrough and hull will already have their squads sorted out and ready.

And finally, in your opinion, what is so special about this game vs Bournemouth?

I absolutely dread this fixture. Not because I think that we are going to lose but because of the two fan bases that have attempted to create a rivalry between the two clubs. Yes, Bournemouth had 16 penalties or whatever it was last season and then they went on to deservedly win the league. There is no rivalry between the two clubs. This “rivalry” is what some fans see it as, when really it is another Premier League game that means nothing in terms of “rivalry” if we win, draw or lose. I’ve heard that some Bournemouth fans are planning on singing Sheffield Wednesday songs on Saturday whilst Watford fans will be calling for a Bournemouth penalty every time Ritchie touches the ball. This is  one of the few games that I don’t want to attend because I know that a minority of “fans” will ruin it no matter the result when all we really want to see is great football from two fantastic teams.

@WatfordStatus

Are you confident that Watford could finally break the run of their poor form against Bournemouth at home, considering the difference of points between the two sides?

I’m pretty confident. Watford seems to be finding that knack of picking up wins, without getting out of top gear. Bournemouth are still an extremely tricky prospect, Ritchie has been an excellent player. Watford have good form against those lower in the table, so with Ighalo & Deeney back in line to partner each other, I’m optimistic of 3pts.

Benik Afobe and Iturbe, who Watford opted out of signing on loan, are likely to start or be in the squad for the game. How much of a threat do you think they bring?

Afobe has been a cracking signing for cherries since arriving from Wolves. They have missed Callum Wilson massively & since then they have struggled upfront. Iturbe, well we were all getting excited about his arrival. Flores & co didn’t fancy his attitude about a guaranteed starting 11 spot. We don’t need those types of players. Our league position is based on the excellent attitude of players wanting to not let their teammates down. Despite being benched for many games in the league, he has showed some neat touches & bursts of speed in last weekend’s FA Cup tie. He’ll want to prove we were wrong. Well, either that or pick up his weekly cheque.

What in the Crystal Palace game do you want to see replicated to the game vs Bournemouth?

Just the first 45 minutes. The Watford we have seen on occasions this season is literally a ‘game of two halves’. Watford could have and should have put the game to bed last week vs Crystal Palace. So we need to be clinical. They (Crystal Palace) kept in the game and we saw that battling aspect of our game. Some more Watson whipped crossing will do. Behrami has found his early season form so long may that continue.

Now that Watford are realistically safe, do you think we should start playing Oulare, Berghuis and Guedioura?

Nearly safe. Aim for 42 points. Watford are able to buy players who they see as ones to mould for the future. Obbi Oulare has immense talent, however it’s been unfortunate not to see him feature as much. But who can displace Deeney & Ighalo double act? Fans favourite Guedioura we all want to feature more. I count him as the reason we got promoted last season. The loan signing who buzzed around the pitch all game. Adlene has not found chances to start much. He’s an excellent character yet with a second season in the Premier League looking likely, plus the additional TV money from new deal, he is looking a squad player at the moment. Steven Berghuis I was most thrilled by. All the hype of his transfer as a highly rated prospect from AZ. But has been extremely disappointing. It’s still far too early to write him off, don’t understand why Watford didn’t loan him to the championship to bulk him up & get more physical. Having a full pre-season may help him on this occasion. Once we have secured 42 points, then we can mix the team up a bit.

Does the Ighalo ‘goal drought’ worry you? Or do you think people are overreacting as Deeney didn’t score until October?

It does not worry me much. Of course, if we did not count the contribution of those two, our next top scorer is own goals. I think most players go through a barren spell, Yaya Toure, Hazard & Capoue to name a few. He’s been scoring at a decent rate since. I don’t think talk of his possible departure in January had any bearing on his form of late. Ighalo is lucky to have a player of Troy’s type next to him. He is constantly looking to feed Odion, the goal will eventually come.

And finally, in your opinion, what is so special about this game vs Bournemouth?

It does have an extra bit of bite this fixture! From pipping us to title to contentious red cards of players. Controversial penalties to using our scouting network, this fixture has sprung out of nowhere. This season we’ve not really had to talk about The Cherries as we’ve been looking up the table, more than below us. They’ve been very unlucky with injuries. If it hadn’t been for Leicester’s terrific campaign, we’d have been the rave in the media. My score prediction is 2-1 Watford.

Are you confident that Watford could finally break the run of their poor form against Bournemouth at home, considering the difference of points between the two sides?

Yes definitely, I’m pretty confident for Saturday. We have come a long way and improved a lot since we last played them. As long as we don’t get unlucky decisions against us, I think it we could get the 3 points.

Benik Afobe and Iturbe, who Watford opted out of signing on loan, are likely to start or be in the squad for the game. How much of a threat do you think they bring?

I think Afobe will be a threat. He has gotten off to a good start at Bournemouth, so we need to keep him quiet. As for Iturbe, from what I have seen I don’t think he is a huge threat. It would be nice to make him feel like he chose the wrong club by winning on Saturday!

What in the Crystal Palace game do you want to see replicated to the game vs Bournemouth?

If I’m honest, I actually missed the Palace game. But I would like to see Amrabat start again with both Deeney and Ighalo playing too. Bournemouth play attacking football and leave themselves open at the back, so it is a great opportunity for Amrabat to play a longer game and possibly get a goal!

Now that Watford are realistically safe, do you think we should start playing Oulare, Berghuis and Guedioura?

Anything can happen, so I think we need to get a few wins to surpass the 40 point mark. We should then definitely start experimenting with the squad. It is important we start young players like Oulare and Berghuis to give them experience in the league. This is important as they could be a large part of our future, especially with Ighalo who will be a transfer target for many clubs in the summer. By resting players from the league games, we could focus more on the FA cup. Why not try and win it if we’ve achieved safety in the league? As for Guedioura, it upsets me that I don’t see him being part of the starting eleven anytime soon, although he should get some more game time as everyone loves him!

Does the Ighalo ‘goal drought’ worry you? Or do you think people are overreacting as Deeney didn’t score until October?

It does not worry me. I have not thought about it really. Saturday is a great way to start a bit of form and get on the score sheet. I think the only thing we should be worried about is our reliance on Ighalo to score. Please can someone teach Capoue how to shoot!

And finally, in your opinion, what is so special about this game vs Bournemouth?

Saturday is a special game because of the rivalry that’s sparked between the two clubs recently. It’s special because we all want to give Bournemouth a beating, score a penalty, and get Iturbe sent off within the first minute! What a laugh that would be.
