Etienne Capoue is a French central midfielder who was, until the 18th January 2016 when Watford signed Amrabat for a fee of £6.1 million, the record signing for The Hornets. Capoue was the standout purchase of the busy summer transfer window for Watford as they signed 14 players. Capoue needed to revive his career after a forgettable spell with Tottenham Hotspurs.
Capoue was signed from Toulouse to Tottenham after the sale of Gareth Bale, which to date is the highest transfer fee paid for any player. Capoue was sporadically played however, with him only getting a real chance to play in the Europa League games. In both years of his career with Spurs, he played 18 times and only scoring once in all competitions. This led to him being sold for 9 million euros having originally bought him for 9 million pounds.
Etienne Capoue has had a very good year with Watford. An important one. Capoue has been the spine and core of this top Watford side. He has had a reputation of being very unlucky with goals. He has even gained his own chant with the fans as well as his respect. He has not bagged a single goal this year with his goal Vs Leeds in the F.A cup being wrongly disallowed. His goal is only round the corner. Surely. Etienne Capoue may have been the biggest signing of the summer transfer window, but he was most certainly the best. He is very skilful and brilliant defensively. Capoue has played 29 games for Watford across all competitions. Watford fans will be hoping for more of the same with Capoue.
