Ahead of the game that will be shown on sky sports tomorrow, I asked four Watford fans on their thoughts.

Firstly I asked Luke Gray, you can find him on twitter @LukeGray1997

Now that Watford are all but safe, what kind of performance are you expecting on Saturday away at the only team realistically challenging Chelsea for the league title?

“Really, I just hope we give it a go, to be honest. Our performance at Spurs last season was possibly one of the worst I’ve seen. We’ve shown at times this season that we can compete with the bigger teams in the league. However, we need to be wary, because with the quality Spurs possess it could easily be another horror show like we saw at Anfield earlier in the season.”

With Britos suspended and Prodl and Kaboul injured, do you expect Mariappa to start and how do you think he will play?

“Personally, I don’t think Mariappa will play, I could see Kabasele and Cathcart starting. But if Maz does throw Mariappa in, he proved on Tuesday that even though he’s had an extreme lack of game-time this season, he’s still capable of doing the job. Even after going down to 10 men, West Brom had barely, if any clear cut chances and I think that was a credit to the defence Mariappa included”

Walter Mazzarri spoke English in his presser against West Brom, Gino Pozzo wouldn’t urge him to do this if he was on his way out. Where do you stand on his future at the club?

“I thought it was great that Mazzarri spoke English in his presser after the game. I watched the interview he did with Sky after the game and there were a couple of occasions you could see he wanted to answer in English but was just lacking in confidence. If you’d have asked me where I stood last week I’d say without a doubt sack him, but I think he has been a bit unfairly treated at times this season, the fact he is the total opposite to Quique Sanchez Flores hasn’t helped him. Also the injuries to key players. Personally, I think he deserves a fair crack next season when hopefully he can have a full squad to work with.”

Niang scored a beautiful goal on Tuesday night, for £14 million, would you take him in the summer?

“Without a doubt, I would take Niang in the summer. He got a lot of stick from AC Milan fans for his attitude when he left, but I can’t fault him when he’s played for us. First two games against Arsenal and Burnley he was class and although he went a bit quiet the last two games, again he showed his class. People also need to remember the lad is only 21 so he has so much room to grow.”

Finally, what is the team you would like to see tomorrow?

“The team I’d like to see tomorrow is: Gomes; Janmaat, Cathcart, Kabasele, Holebas; Success, Cleverly, Doucoure, Capoue; Niang, Deeney”

Secondly, I asked Anthony, @WatfordStatus

Now that Watford are all but safe, what kind of performance are you expecting on Saturday away at the only team realistically challenging Chelsea for the league title?

“We’re not 100% safe yet, however, my word those 6 points came in very handy. Honestly, I think on the back of these two victories, we actually embody confidence, where has it been all season? Spurs will also be on a high, after their late masterclass to win late at Swansea. I’d take a draw, to be honest.”

With Britos suspended and Prodl and Kaboul injured, do you expect Mariappa to start and how do you think he will play?

“I don’t think there is any option other to have Mapps come straight in, we’ve no one else. Fully believe he’ll do an adequate job, but after a long time inactive, could be in for a long afternoon. Kabasele is thankfully fit again, although too early to start from the off. Cathcart looks likely to partner Mariappa, Janmaat and Holebas either side.”

Walter Mazzarri spoke English in his presser against West Brom, Gino Pozzo wouldn’t urge him to do this if he was on his way out. Where do you stand on his future at the club?

“Barring the last two weeks I’ve been fully behind him. The style of play was utter trash. However, our injury record has been abysmal, so any clear starting eleven he would’ve wanted, has never been available to him. The language barrier must be tricky. Look at Gary Neville on his Spanish conquest. A cracking player and commentator, however, an awful managerial spell, which in part is the struggle to get your ideas across. I fully want him to be a success, look at the passion, it’s great. I’d think if he had already got his marching orders, he’d just be kicking back on the bench with a Pepsi (wink wink). Plus my use of Alec Baldwin Gifs would become meaningless. Those lessons he supposedly had during last summer sound useless, but if he does stay, he’s got to undergo an intense language course. It’s vital. I do hope people can try getting behind him, I want his passion.”

Niang scored a beautiful goal on Tuesday night, for £14 million, would you take him in the summer?

“No doubt he’s a bargain. It all depends if he wants to stay at Watford, however, I’m hoping we’ve all made him feel welcome. Look, I’m sure he’ll want to play in Champions League, playing at glitzy teams, however here at Watford we tend to a greater extent to support our players compared to those in England. There is raw talent there, no one would begrudge him moving to bigger club 2 or 3 years down the line, having entertained us in that time. He had the pace we and more so myself, have been screaming out for. Our team prior to his loan only had Isaac Success with anything that embodied pace. Not only would it be stupid to not turn the loan into a permanent deal, it’ll also put us back a step for next season. No defender in the league likes facing outright pace, look at those facing Wilfred Zaha, it destroys us every match. £14m seems a snip considering the farcical comparisons of what you could buy in the UK for that money. A must buy.”

Finally, what is the team you would like to see tomorrow?

“What team can we field by sounds of it. Is anybody energetic enough after the monumental effort they’ve put in earlier in the week? I’d take a draw right now if offered, however, Tottenham also played a day later and with earlier Kickoff tomorrow, would maybe help a little.

That said, tomorrow line up:

Gomes; Janmaat, Cathcart, Mariappa, Mason; Amrabat, Cleverly, Doucoure, Success; Deeney, Okaka

I genuinely haven’t a clue. Be nice to give Mason another go he’ll be fresh, plus a good character needed here. I’ll take a draw, however, I can’t look if Spurs are on it and our recent encounters with them.”

Next, I asked Dom, @SimplyWatford

Now that Watford are all but safe, what kind of performance are you expecting on Saturday away at the only team realistically challenging Chelsea for the league title?

“I hope we can continue to play with the confidence that we showed against West Brom. We rolled over against Spurs in the reverse fixture and all the fans want to see is commitment and concentration. We can’t afford to give them easy goals, make them work for their chances. That’s all we can ask.”

With Britos suspended and Prodl and Kaboul injured, do you expect Mariappa to start and how do you think he will play?

“Well, once again we find ourselves stuck in an injury crisis. Mariappa played well when called upon on Tuesday but will have a hard task on Saturday. Son and Alli will both be playing in free-roles drifting in from wide areas, any centre back in the league would struggle when they’re on form. In that sense, there’s little pressure on Maps. I’m confident he and Cathcart can put in a good shift whatever the result.”

Walter Mazzarri spoke English in his presser against West Brom, Gino Pozzo wouldn’t urge him to do this if he was on his way out. Where do you stand on his future at the club?

“Recently the Mazzarri Out campaign had spread to almost every Watford fan on social media but something has changed. Not only have we picked up back to back wins but the style is different. We seem more confident now, like a team with an actual game plan. Gino has invested big time in Walter and now that we have the opportunity to finish the season on a high I think he’ll stay. The interview was brilliant and I hope we see it more often. This season will be largely forgotten about and if we can progress again then Walter can win the fans back.”

Niang scored a beautiful goal on Tuesday night, for £14 million, would you take him in the summer?

“Absolutely, especially for that price. £14m doesn’t get you very far anymore but we have the chance to sign a live-wire with bags of potential a player like him is what we were crying out for last season and for large parts of this campaign. He’s making headlines here already and we should snap him up before someone else does.”

Finally, what is the team you would like to see tomorrow?

“If the injury rumours are true then we will just have to play whoever we can find. I believe some of the doubts will be rested.

Gomes; Janmaat, Mariappa, Cathcart, Holebas; Cleverly, Zuniga; Amrabat, Niang, Success; Okaka”

 Lastly, I asked Henry. @HTAM96

Now that Watford are all but safe, what kind of performance are you expecting on Saturday away at the only team realistically challenging Chelsea for the league title?

“As Watford can barely make a starting XI of fully fit players Saturday’s fixture against a free-scoring Spurs side is almost certainly a victory for the home side who have scored 35 goals at home in the league in 13 wins and 2 draws in their final season at White Hart Lane. Watford have to acknowledge that the odds are stacked against them and that Spurs are likely to score a couple so Watford have to be positive and take the game to Spurs and attack, not just sit back and hope that there isn’t a cricket score at 2pm.”

With Britos suspended and Prodl and Kaboul injured, do you expect Mariappa to start and how do you think he will play?

“I can’t say that I see Mariappa having a good game or a nice calm lunchtime as I can see Spurs netting at least twice tomorrow. It was great to see him back at Vicarage Road and his performance in those last 20 minutes was excellent. If he can replicate his performance against the Baggies tomorrow and keep a clean sheet then I’d be very happy with having him at Watford next season. Of course, I expect him to start, as we aren’t exactly given a great choice of Centre halves, I can see the recovering Kabasele benched.”

Walter Mazzarri spoke English in his presser against West Brom, Gino Pozzo wouldn’t urge him to do this if he was on his way out. Where do you stand on his future at the club?

“For me, he is a very talented manager and has shown as such in Italy. For me, a question lingers over whether he is suited to English football as he’s made his managerial career from getting the best out of his forwards, Cassano and Cavani being the best examples of this. Watford’s defence has left a lot to be desired this term and whilst the attacking prowess that Mazzarri could have got out of his players isn’t there, it’s wise to acknowledge the stupendous amount of injuries this season. For me, fans have to realise the wealth of attacking players that Watford have on loan and to just imagine what is possible next season.  This season has been a write-off for a long time, but for me, Walter needs another season.”

Niang scored a beautiful goal on Tuesday night, for £14 million, would you take him in the summer?

“When we signed him in January I saw reviews of him comparing him to Mario Balotelli in that his off the field antics often shadow his performances on the pitch. There was also no doubt as to his talent, but this alleged attitude problem does concern me. As for on the field, he’s easily been one of our best players in 2017. I would take him at Watford next season and as €14m is nothing in today’s market it seems a risk worth taking. With Peñaranda highly unlikely to gain a work permit and join up with Watford next season and with Berghuis being a favourite at Feyernoord I’d definitely take him.”

Finally, what is the team you would like to see tomorrow?

“Pantilimon; Janmaat, Cathcart, Mapps, Holebas; Zuniga, Stewart; Niang, Success, Amrabat; Okaka.

Leave out any doubts and drop forms due to poor form. We all know we’re going to lose, so it’s probably best to not aggravate injuries.”c1lw_w_w8aeifyu
