News Southampton Transfer Rumours

Claude Puel is adamant that defender Virgil Van Dijk has not played his last game for Southampton, yet. The Southampton team-captain has been in fine form since departing former club Celtic in 2015 and has been hotly-tipped to join one of England’s prestigious clubs in the Summer Transfer Window.

Puel believes the club directors will reject any incoming offer for the defender as they look to compete for a place in European football next season.

In the past, Southampton have been known to cash in on some of their most prized assets, such as Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Calum Chambers, Dejan Lovren, etc, but this time around it seems like that will not be the case.

“Virgil had a bad injury, but now it’s OK, his surgery is finished and he can work normally and go into the gym for rehabilitation and come back next season – with us.”

“He’s our captain and he’s important for us. He’s matured and taken leadership on the team; he’s a fantastic player we know well.”

“He’s important for us and now, of course, we will wait to the beginning of the season to see him on the pitch with Southampton. He has a long contract and the directors will want to keep him.”

Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea have been the clubs most linked with the 25-year-old, as Liverpool’s defensive problems have cancelled out their high goal-scoring records. It will be an interesting fight for the Van Dijk’s signature, if he is to leave Southampton.
