Southampton linked with ambitious and expensive transfers?

Today two fascinating reports have emerged that Southampton are looking to strengthen the squad this January transfer window. The two names linked are Gylfi Sigurdsson from struggling Swansea and Kostas Manolas the Greek center back from AS Roma.
The first report came from @GummiBen on twitter, an Icelandic commentator.
In this tweet he claims that Southampton are very surprisingly willing to pay up to £34 Million for Gylfi’s services. However with the current state Swansea are in they would rebuff any offer for the player.
Southampton have been goal shy so far this season and are currently one of the lowest scoring teams. One real problem has been the lack of goals from midfield. Sigurdsson would not only add goals but also creativity though the middle which Saints are so desperate for.
The next report is very surprising, and these come from the Calciomercato. They say that Southampton along with Everton and Manchester United are all eyeing up moves for Kostas Manolas, the Greek center back from AS Roma.
This really is a surprising link; Manolas is a very good center back that would start for any premier league team, also he’s valued at £50 Million by AS Roma. Roma are looking to sell as Kostas wants a new deal that would see him earn a cool £3.5M a year however due to FFP (Financial Fair Play) they cannot do so.
And with Southampton on the verge of losing Jose Fonte the club will be looking to strengthen the central defence. And they certainly would be doing so if they somehow managed to replace Fonte with Manolas.
