Rangers are targetting Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, who is currently learning his trade with Liverpool’s U18’s, to manage the club next season, according to Goal.

The Scottish club are said to have held talks with Gerrard, with the 37-year-old undecided on whether to take the first step into management barely a year after starting with the Reds’ youth side.

If Gerrard decides to begin his managerial career in Scotland, it will see him come face to face with old boss and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers in the Old Firm derby. The idea of putting a halt to Rodgers’ Celtic’s domination in Scotland could be enough to entice Gerrard to join Rangers.

The Nothern Irishman has been a huge success since moving to the Hoops after his departure from Liverpool, winning a treble in his first season whilst being on course to do so once again in his second season. Rodgers managed Liverpool to perhaps their closest chance at the Premier League title, letting it slip away after defeat to Chelsea and drawing with Crystal Palace.

Gerrard was also recently linked with a move to Ipswich Town after Mick McCarthy’s departure and has previously turned down a chance to manage at MK Dons. If Gerrard is to be Jürgen Klopp’s successor, as many Liverpool fans wish for, a move to Rangers to display his ability could be the beginning of the former midfielder’s path to the Anfield touchline.
