Newcastle yesterday confirmed the capture of Rafa Benitez on a three year deal. There is an option, however, to opt-out if the Magpies find themselves playing Championship football next term.

The arrival of the Spaniard was met by excitement from the Toon faithful, and many now are more confident of retaining Premier League status.

Benitez still faces a tough task of keeping Newcastle in the top flight – but if he does, here are seven players he could purchase in the summer.

Casemiro

The Brazilian was one of Benitez’s favorites while the Spaniard was managing the Royal Whites. The tough tackling midfielder hasn’t featured prominently under Zidane to date. With Madrid looking to bring in new faces in the summer, Casemiro could want to leave the Bernabeu for a club which will offer him regular first team football. Newcastle United could possibly be that club.

Faouzi Ghoulam

The Algerian left back worked under Benitez during the Spaniard’s time in Naples. With the Magpies having looked at Ghoulam before and in desperate need of a left back, Ghoulam could possibly arrive at St. James’ Park this summer.

Manolo Gabbiadini

The Italian forward was signed by Napoli while Rafa was managing the club. Newcastle looked into making a move for him in Janaury, and, now with Benitez in charge, it looks a strong possibility that they will make a second attempt to sign the ex-Sampdoria man.

Daniel Ayala

The Spanish defender has been outstanding for Middlesbrough this season. Boro have struggled as of late, though, and manager Aitor Karanka reportedly stormed out of a recent team meeting furious, saying he no longer wanted to manage those players. Ayala played under Benitez during his time at Liverpool, and his sizzling form in the Championship could earn him a Premier League move.

Denis Cheryshev

The Russian has struggled to get on the pitch during his time at Madrid, and has been sent out on loan every year. Benitez knows the tricky winger from his time at the Bernabeu, and he could want to bring him to Tyneside this summer if he thinks the Madrid academy product could thrive in the Premier League.

Jese Rodriguez

Another player who is known by Benitez from his time at Madrid. The Spanish winger is being tracked by Liverpool and West Ham as well, but Benitez’s Madrid links could win him this prized jewel.

Andrea Ranocchia

The Italian was signed by Benitez during the Spaniard’s time at Inter Milan. With the club having looked at the center-back even before Benitez’s arrival, this could be a match made in heaven.

Interesting article Kia mate, nice work.

  2. Madridista02 says:

I don’t see a reason why Jese Rodriguez would leave Madrid for Newcastle. He is getting good playing time, he comes on as a sub almost every game. Why would he leave one of the best teams in the world for a team that struggles to stay in the Premier League?
