Following Rooney’s recent knee injury, which is rumoured to sideline him for 6 weeks, the United captain may get time off to consider what the future holds for him at Manchester United. Fellow United team mate and striker, Anthony Martial ,20, who has been compared to Thierry Henry, has a bright future ahead of him. Should Rooney remain at United and finish out his contract, till June 2019, speculation regarding Martial’s role at the club as well as his future could potentially increase.
One of the rumoured destination’s for Rooney is China. United could reportedly earn a staggering £500,000-a-week at the Chinese Super League, which would be be an enormous increase to his current salary. Sven-Goran Eriksson has been in the media of late, urging Wayne Rooney to join him in China. “Everybody in China knows the superstar players like him. Rooney would take this league to another level, I have no doubt about that.”
One thing for sure is that Manchester United will not sell their star striker until they can find an adequate replacement. Mauro Icardi, Paolo Dybala, Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku are all names who have mentioned recently. All are young, promising talent. Should United sell Wayne Rooney on, they will struggle to replace his experience of the game and his leadership.
