Manchester United News Transfer Rumours

Raphael Varane, the 24-year-old Real Madrid defender, has been linked with a move to Manchester United by Sky as the club look to bolster their defensive options for next season. There have been several rumours of him being a potential target for the past few years and those have just intensified after José Mourinho was appointed as Manchester United manager.

Mourinho convinced the then teenager to make the move to the Los Blancos and Varane is said to have a very good relationship with the United boss and there is a genuine possibility that Varane could make the move to Old Trafford.

Raphael Varane is yet to cement his place as a first choice defender at Real Madrid, partly due to injuries and inconsistency. With Manchester United on the look for a defender to partner Ivorian Eric Bailly, Varane could be the ideal option and he may be tempted to link up with his former manager at Manchester United. He is more polished and comfortable on the ball compared to the other defenders at United and Mourinho does really value that. With the likes of Smalling and Jones hardly making any big strides over their time at Old Trafford, Mourinho may decide to move at least one of them on, if not both. There is also the ever-growing French

There is also the ever-growing French contingent at United with the likes of Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba and possibly one or two others who could join United during the transfer window and this could convince him to make the move.

There is also constant news about goalkeeper David De Gea possibly making a move to Real Madrid and there could be some sort of swap plus cash deal in the offing. De Gea has been linked with Real Madrid for some time now and he may decide to finally make the move, and this might be a bait which United could use to sort out a deal. The rumours are still very much in its early stages but there definitely is a chance that Raphael Varane could make the move to Manchester United over the summer.

  1. I really hope he does come to United. Jones and Smalling are quite lacking in a lot of defensive abilities and having Bailly and Varane with Shaw/Blind or even Rojo at left-back and Valencia at right-back would be ideal for keeping a good goal difference and ensuring no screw ups at the back, often made by Jones and Smalling. His signing along with the high probability of a top-four finish and reaching the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League. Given that we’ve recently announced the signing of Victor Lindelof from SL Benfica, we could even run a back five with wing backs.
