As the weekend comes to a close, so does a crazy transfer saga. The battle for Romelu Lukaku’s services between Manchester United and Chelsea was a quick one, but a nerve-racking one for both sets of fans as the Belgian was reportedly given a choice between the two clubs on Friday night, but it seems a move to Old Trafford was on the 24-year-old’s bucket list.

In his first interview as a Manchester United player, the forward shared the love for his new club, insisting it was an opportunity he couldn’t turn down. José Mourinho was the man that allowed the former Chelsea forward to leave the club, but Lukaku has revealed the United boss was one of the main reasons he chose the club, saying he wanted to work with him from the age of ten.

“This is an opportunity that I’ve always wanted since I was a child,” Lukaku told ESPN.

“When Manchester United came calling, I didn’t have to think twice. So I’m really delighted to hopefully be part of their history. My mind was already set. I gave my word, and I don’t look back. I haven’t looked back since, and I was already mentally preparing to be part of the team.”

“I’ve been talking to Paul [Pogba] for about seven or eight years. And now he’s living in Manchester,” Lukaku said. “I live in Manchester. He lives like down the road from where I live, so we’re together on a daily basis. He was explaining to me how it went at the club, and it triggered something in my head. When the opportunity came, I didn’t have to think twice. I’m really excited.”
