Manchester City have completed the signing of Bernardo Silva from AS Monaco. The fee has been reported to be around the £61m mark by Mohamed Bouhasfi, one of the most reliable journalists on Twiter, however, the BBC believe City will spend £43m on Silva’s services.

The highly-rated Portuguese playmaker is Pep Guardiola’s first addition for next season after clearing out the club yesterday, releasing Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy, Pablo Zabaleta and Willy Cabellero.

The 22-year-old has been involved in 17 goals in Monaco’s title-winning season, scoring eight and assisting on nine occasions. Silva’s close control and exhilarating dribbling technique has often been compared to Lionel Messi’s, and Guardiola will be hoping his new addition can serve him just as well as the Argentine did during their time together at Barcelona. In fact, Silva earned the nickname ‘Little Messi’ during his time at Benfica.

Manchester City aren’t stopping there, though. Reports suggest Guardiola is eyeing a new full-back pairing, with his main priorities being Tottenham’s Kyle Walker, and Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy. The Citizens are certainly making a statement of intent, but only time will tell who’s intent will loom larger as the rest of the Premier League look to spend big.
