Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero was involved in a car crash which could see him out on the sidelines for around 6-8 weeks with a fractured rib, according to ESPN.

Agüero, who wasn’t driving the car himself, instead was in a taxi as he headed back to Amsterdam airport after going to a concert on Thursday evening. Dutch police told Sky Sports that two people had been taken to hospital, with Manchester City confirming that one of them had been Agüero.

From photos released online, it seems that the driver lost control of the car and hit a barricade on the pavement adjacent to the road. The incident means Agüero will certainly miss City’s crucial matches against Chelsea this weekend and Napoli in mid-October.

If the injury lasts up to two months, Agüero will miss the away fixture against Napoli and their home match versus Arsenal in the Premier League.

This devastating news will be a massive blow for Pep Guardiola, with another crucial first team player Benjamin Mendy confirming on twitter last night he had ruptured his ACL. Mendy will be ruled out for 6 months minimum, resulting in Guardiola admitting he will have to sign a new left-back in January.

Agüero had started the season in fine form, netting 7 goals in 8 games across all competitions.
