With the Premier League season now at its pinnacle, it’s is the time for players to step and deliver for their respected clubs. The top sides are all striving towards those sacred Champions League places in order to play alongside Europe’s elite for the forthcoming season and one of those teams is Liverpool.

The Reds are looking to qualify for the prestigious tournament for only the second time since 2009, which ultimately leaves fans of the club extremely frustrated each year. However, there is a special feeling around Anfield this year that Liverpool will deliver and join the ‘big boys’ at Europe’s top table.

The best word to describe Liverpool this season would be intriguing. This being that you are never really sure what Liverpool side you are going to see, which has left fans confused at the best of times. Some of the attacking play on display from Liverpool this season has been nothing short of sensational, the iconic front three of Coutinho, Firmino and Mane have torn defences to ribbons at times. But, as we know, with the good always comes the bad and at times this season Liverpool have been all too fond of displaying their bad side. The Reds have conceded the most goals out of all the top seven sides (42), which will have given manager, Jürgen Klopp, plenty of sleepless nights that’s for sure.

The main reason for this is likely down to the fact that Liverpool have been unable to field a consistent centre-back partnership. Based on statistics, it is clear that Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren have been the most successful duo but down to injuries their games together have been limited.

As of now, the Reds currently sit in third place ahead of their top four rivals, although the crucial part being that they all have games in hand on them which takes it out of their hands. The Merseyside club’s main rivals for the top four are fierce rivals, Manchester United, who at the moment are two points behind with a game in hand. Based on this, you could say that the Red Devils are in pole position to steal Liverpool’s place, but United’s remaining fixtures put that into some doubt. With them having to play Arsenal and Tottenham all away from home, they would need to string together a type of form that they haven’t shown all season. This is also made even harder with the recent loss of talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which will surely prove to be huge in the race for the Champions League.

After considering all this, all that is left to think about is who Liverpool have left to play in this massively exciting Premier League season. The final four remaining fixtures that await Liverpool are Watford, Southampton, West Ham and Middlesbrough. At this point in the season, these fixtures seem perfect for the Reds as all four teams don’t have a massive amount to play for currently which may take a slight edge from each side.

Even still, with a team of Liverpool’s quality, they should be expected to take maximum points from these games, this would put them in great stead to reach the top four. So, as time ticks on and we get ever closer to the final whistle for the Premier League season, the question on every Liverpool fan’s mind is, can Jürgen Klopp’s men do it?
