Southampton Football Club have reportedly asked the Premier League to investigate Liverpool’s alleged illegal approach for defender Virgil van Dijk. Some reports have claimed that the defender has his heart set on moving to the club, and even rejected an offer from Manchester City to sign him.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has made the Dutch defender one of his priorities in the summer transfer window, along with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Faouzi Ghoulam. Southampton, however, are reportedly irritated by the Merseyside club’s attempt to unsettle the defender and could reject all offers unless they match their proposed target of £60 million.

The BBC say Liverpool are yet to ask Southampton for permission to speak to the 25-year-old, but Liverpool have reportedly tried to unsettle the defender, which Southampton are furious at. The Saints will report the Merseyside club to the Premier League over illegally approaching Van Dijk, something Liverpool have been punished for already in their academy, which resulted in a two-year ban from signing academy players for the club. It’s unclear what the final result will be in the Virgil Van Dijk saga, but Southampton will almost certainly maintain their ground.
