Liverpool have agreed a £43.7m fee with AS Monaco for Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, according to The Telegraph.

The 24-year-old has been linked with Manchester United, Atlético Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, however, a move to Anfield is expected to be announced in the coming days.

Liverpool are said to have enquired about the availability of the midfielder last year but Monaco’s stance was they would not sell either Fabinho or Thomas Lemar after Kylian Mbappé’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain. The likely departure of Emre Can has also called Jürgen Klopp into action and with the need to replace the German, Fabinho seems to have been the main target.

The reported fee is €45million plus a further €5million in add-ons. Fabinho joins Naby Keïta, who was signed for £52.75m and Virgil van Dijk, signed for £75m, in the list of expensive additions Klopp has made since the beginning of last season in an attempt to rid of the flaws in his exciting side. Liverpool have also been linked with a move for AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson, though a possible deal will set them back more than £70m if reports are to be believed.

Official announcement of Liverpool’s new signing could be as early as tomorrow, which would be a genius way of making supporters upbeat again after the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
