Liverpool vs Manchester City match preview:
This Sunday, February 28th, Liverpool and Manchester City will travel to Wembley to face off in the final of the Capital One Cup, with both sides trying to claim the first piece of silverware of the season.
Between the two clubs, they have had their names on this trophy a combined total of 11 times, with Liverpool holding the record of 8 successful campaigns.
Jürgen Klopp is looking for his first trophy since arriving at Melwood just five-months ago. Manuel Pellegrini is hoping for his second League Cup trophy since his arrival in 2013.
The Reds will need to start with the same tempo and spark they used at the Etihad earlier in the season, pressurising City straight away and looking for that early breakthrough. The Blues have one of Europe’s best strikers in Sergio Aguero, but they could revert to out-of-favour striker, Wilfried Bony, for the final especially with Liverpool’s defence being questionable at best. Bony’saerial threat and menacing presence will concern every Liverpool fan if his name is on the team sheet this Sunday. The two sides enjoyed a great week in European football, with Liverpool qualifying for the next round of the Europa League, whilst City travelled to Ukraine, which saw them earn a 3-1 win against Dynamo Kiev.
Team selection: The timing of this game couldn’t have come at a better time for Liverpool, especially with Joe Allen, Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana all back in training. Jürgen Klopp has the majority of his player back fit for the first time during his Liverpool reign. Kevin De Bruyne is the only City regular missing which will almost definitely play towards Liverpool’s advantage. Manuel Pellegrini looks set to keep faith with back-up goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who has started every League Cup game over the past 2 seasons for City.
