Barcelona target Philipe Coutinho has handed in a transfer request at Liverpool according to Sky Sports News. After Neymar left the Spanish side for PSG in a world record £198 million transfer, the Catalan club have needed to act quickly in replacing the Brazillian winger.

Fenway Sports Group, who are a parent company of Liverpool this morning issued a statement regarding their 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder stating, “The club’s definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes.”

Jürgen Klopp today in his pre-match media interview said that ahead of the trip to Watford on Saturday, Philipe would miss the trip due to a back injury. Just after 12:00 pm, Sky tweeted that the Brazilian had handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force a move to Barcelona.

However, Liverpool have told reporters close to the club that Coutinho hasn’t handed in a transfer request and this is the first they have heard of it, leaving Liverpool fans in a crazy meltdown.

With Barcelona making Coutinho their number one transfer target, Liverpool’s resolve will be tested if the star wants out of the club. This week ex-player Jamie Carragher came out in an interview with Sky Sports saying he thought Coutinho will stay with in Merseyside but only for the next 12 months, as the opportunity to play with Messi and Surez is “very difficult to turn down.”

Ousmane Dembélé is also a target for the Catalonian club, with the 20-year-old Frenchmen missing training yesterday as reported by the Borussia Dortmund manager Peter Bosz.
