Philippe Coutinho has publicly spoken about his failed Barcelona move for the first time since returning to the Liverpool side after a summer of speculation surrounding his future.

The Brazilian was subject to heavy interest and multiple bids from the Spanish club, but Liverpool maintained their stance that they would not sell their star man.

The 25-year-old made his first Premier League appearance for Liverpool in their 1-1 draw with Burnley yesterday after recovering from a so-called ‘back injury’. Now, after moving on from a ‘difficult month, Coutinho insists he will now focus on giving his best at Anfield for the remainder of the season.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, the midfielder revealed: “What happened is that I received an offer, and in life, sometimes you’re interested and sometimes you’re not.”

“In my case, as everyone knows, I was interested and so was my family. It was a difficult month for me, but now it’s all over and I must focus on having a good season, helping my team, thinking about Liverpool and the national team.”

“I’ve always respected Liverpool, the fans, the players and their board members. It’s a great honour to receive an offer from a great club, but so is being here. Liverpool are a great club.”
