Ligue 1 News Paris Saint-Germain

Following Neymar’s £198m move to Paris Saint-Germain, the Brazilian was unveiled in front of the world’s media for the first time since joining his new club. His move from Barcelona makes the 25-year-old the most expensive transfer in football history beating Paul Pogba’s previous record of £89m.

The motive behind the winger’s move has been widely debated, with many suggesting money turned both Neymar’s head as well as his fathers. However, Neymar has insisted money played no role in his decision to swap Barcelona for Paris.

Speaking alongside PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the Brazil international revealed all behind his reasoning for his historic move to France, saying “I wanted a new challenge. This was about ambition. My heart told me that it was time to sign for Paris St Germain. It was the right time to leave Barcelona and find new challenges.”

“I was never motivated by money. I thought above all else about of the happiness of my family, regardless of money. I regret that some people think this is the case.”

Neymar’s first chance to don his new number ten shirt comes tomorrow afternoon as PSG take on newly-promoted Amiens. Despite only officially joining on Thursday evening, Neymar insists he wishes to make his debut this weekend, telling reports:

“I’m ready. If I can play tomorrow, why not? I will speak with the staff and wait for the green light, but this is what I love to do. To play football.”
