Despite a less convincing performance compared to recent weeks, Paris Saint-Germain remained Ligue 1 leaders on Sunday courtesy of two unfortunate Lyon own goals. A spectacular Maxime Lopez display was pathetically shadowed by who gets “first dibs” on PSG set-pieces; Edinson Cavani or world record signing, Neymar.

Numerous incidents throughout the game indicated that there was some tension between the two stars. Many times Lopez’s acrobatics could have been spared if the two forwards, who have 11 goals between them this season, had tried to pick the other out.

The underlying tension came to a head when Dani Alves refused to give Cavani the ball in favour of his Brazilian counterpart Neymar. The Uruguayan took the spot kick, which was consequently saved by in-form ‘keeper Lopez.

After the game, Unai Emery had some stern words of advice for the two teammates, saying: “I have told them to sort it out between themselves. I think that they are capable of doing that.”

“They will both be our kickers. If they cannot reach an agreement, I will decide for them– I do not want this to become a problem for us.”

The Spanish coach may have more to worry about than which star scores PSG’s set pieces; Neymar has recently unfollowed Edinson Cavani on Instagram, suggesting trouble may well be on the horizon for the Paris pair.

If things turn too sour, the French side may even be forced to rely on French international Kylian Mbappé to deliver the goods as an alternative of the in-form Cavani, who, after the millions shed on Neymar this summer, looks to be in a less favourable position.
