According to AS, the viral condition causing Dani Carvajal’s pericarditis has disappeared. The defender has undergone treatment, consisting of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and aspirin, which has proved successful.

However, despite seeing the viral illness subsiding, Carvajal has not been discharged. Real Madrid’s club doctors are cautious about his potential return to action and have not yet specified a potential return date for the defender.

Carvajal has not trained since September after the club officially announced that he was going to be sidelined for an indefinite period of time due to a pericardium infection. The problem with pericarditis is that even once the virus has died down, exercising ahead of full recovery is not recommended as it can cause arrhythmias, a relapse (constrictive pericarditis), or can have even worse consequences, including pericardial effusion or the appearance of fluid around the heart.

The Spaniard is out of any danger after being diagnosed with pericarditis and the fact that the virus has gone has made the Madrid doctors optimistic about his case. Over these past days, the doctors feared that Carvajal might end up like Aitor Karanka, who also suffered from pericarditis playing with Madrid and was ruled out for four months during the 1998-99 campaign.

That has not been the case with Carvajal, and the club are confident that the full-back will return should be training again before the end of October.
