Arsène Wenger rarely makes signings, but when he does, they are chosen extremely carefully. Thus, it was extremely baffling when Arsenal’s lineup for Sunday’s Liverpool crunch clash was announced, and both of Arsenal’s new signings, Sead Kolašinac and Alexandre Lacazette, were not included in the lineup.

The main talking point among fans was the exclusion of the marquee Frenchman, who joined for £53 million this summer, in favour of Manchester United outcast Danny Welbeck, who spectacularly failed to impress against Stoke City but retained his place in the lineup alongside Alexis Sánchez and Mesut Özil, much to the discontent of Gunners alike.

Referring to the bizarre tactics and disappointing managerial performance from Wenger in recent years, many proclaimed their frustration with the gaffer once again after seeing this ridiculous team selection.

Many were also displeased with the selection of Héctor Bellerín at left-wing-back ahead of new signing Sead Kolašinac, who is known for his ability to maraud the left flank.

Opposition fans involved in the Twitter game were equally quick to refer to the infamous Arsenal Fan TV, making references to what we could end up hearing after the match if it doesn’t pan out for Wenger’s men.

The match didn’t help either, as Roberto Firmino swiftly put Liverpool ahead with an expertly timed header that Arsenal’s defence didn’t even attempt to track. Sadio Mane doubled the lead before half time, and by time Mohammed Salah was given the opportunity to make it three, Wenger-related dispute on Twitter reached a new level.

Alexis Sanchez, who has openly stated his desire to leave Arsenal, reacted superbly to the performance, putting on a series of facial expressions that kept cameras on his face more frequently than the actual football pitch.

The widespread criticism of the players involved at Anfield was the most prevalent aspect of the night, with fans of all football clubs uniting to marvel at the awful display of Arsenal’s team. From top to bottom, the display was baffling, and that is reflected in these final tweets.
