France’s electrifying XI ran out as 3-2 winners over England tonight after a Harry Kane brace was cancelled out by Ousmane Dembélé’s winner as Les Bleus managed to snatch the win despite having just ten men due to Raphael Varane’s dismissal. The game was nothing like a usual friendly, with both sides playing entertaining football.

France (4-4-2)

Hugo Lloris – 7

Unable to prevent both goals, made a couple of saves but was largely untroubled as the game went on.

Benjamin Mendy (off 21′) – 5

Was lively down the left flank before going off injured.

Lucas Digne (on 21′)  – 7

Came on to replace Mendy. Did not really provide an attacking threat. Untroubled defensively.

Samuel Umtiti – 7.5

Could not do anything about Kane scoring the opener.Scored to make it 1-1 in the first half. Commanding performance. Made sure Kane could not affect play centrally.

Raphael Varane (sent off 47′) – 5

Good first half. Sent off early in the second half for an unnecessary challenge on Alli.

Laurent Koscielny (on 52′) – 6.5

Looked shaky when he came on, but settled quickly to prevent England from scoring.

Djibril Sidibé (off 90′) – 7

Caught on the blindside by Bertrand for the first goal. Calm finish to make it 2-1. Was comfortable defending against England’s wide men. Subbed off late in the second half.

Christophe Jallet (on 90′)- 4

Not enough time to make an impact.

Thomas Lemar – 7

Spent most of the game drifting inside to occupy England’s midfielders. His intelligent movement caused all sorts of problems down the left flank. His set piece resulted in the leveler.

Paul Pogba- 8.5

Fantastic performance from the midfielder, jinked past England players with ease. Was a one-man army in the center of the park. Lovely pass to setup up the third goal.

N’Golo Kanté – 7

Was quiet tonight, went around his duties effectively; sweeping up in front of the defence and recycling possession when under pressure.

Ousmane Dembélé – 9

Missed a guilt edged chance. Came back stronger; left John Stones for dead for the second goal. Beautiful finish for the third goal. Exploited the space between the centre backs to deadly effect. This performance just increased his price tag.

Olivier Giroud (off 52′) – 6.5

His header led to Umtiti’s goal. Dominated aerially. Performed brilliantly as the team played to his strengths. Subbed off early in the second half as France were down to 10.

Kylian Mbappé – 8

Drifted to the left to cause Kieran Trippier all sorts of problems. Preoccupied all 3 centre-halves on his own after Giroud went off. Unlucky to have hit the crossbar, provided the assist to Dembélé to make it 3-2. Immense talent.

England (3-4-3)

Tom Heaton (off 46′) – 6

Parried two shots which lead to two goals. Made a brilliant save to deny Mbappé. Subbed off at half time.

Jack Butland (on 46′) – 6

Came on at half-time and did not have much to do. Beaten by Dembélé’s low shot.

Kieran Trippier (off 76′) – 6

Energetic performance, but he didn’t have much joy up and down the right flank.

Ryan Bertrand (off 46′) – 7

Nice cross to setup the first goal. Constantly provided support during attacks. Strangely subbed off at half time.

Kyle Walker (on 46′) – 6

Was always in space down the left, shame his teammates could not pick him out. Provided width to stretch the French back-line.

Aaron Cresswell (on 82′) – 5

Provided some dangerous crosses when he came on, shame there was no one there on the end of it.

Phil Jones (off 82′) – 8

Solid defensive performance, best English defender on the pitch. It’s a shame he couldn’t last the full 90 minutes.

John Stones – 4

Left on his backside for the second goal. Poor performance but support was lacking.

Gary Cahill – 4

Left Stones and Jones to defend on their own for most of the first-half. Terrible defending during France’s third goal.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 4

Completely lost in Central Midfield. Should have been taken off during halftime.

Eric Dier – 4

Dominated by Paul Pogba all game. Misplaced pass led to France goal. Surprised he played the full 90.

Raheem Sterling – 7

Intelligent play to find Bertrand for the goal, lively outlet up front, England’s best goal threat

Harry Kane – 8

Beautifully taken goal for the first. Calm penalty for the second.

Dele Alli – 6

Offered little attacking threat in the first 45. Caused the penalty in the second half.
