Everton are set to appoint former Hull City and Watford boss Marco Silva this week, six months after they first approached him, according to The Independent.

The Portuguese coach is set to replace Sam Allardyce who was sacked by the Merseyside club after complaints from fans over the style of football, despite guiding the club away from a relegation fight which they had seen themselves in during Ronald Koeman’s time in charge.

Silva was originally Farhad Moshiri’s first choice to replace Koeman last season, however, complications with Watford over a compensation fee halted any potential move. The situation caused Watford’s good form to deteriorate massively which led to Silva being relieved of his duties.

The appointment of Silva, along with the introduction of new Director of Football Marcel Brands, is part of Everton’s plan to shake things up at the club, with an axe to the wage bill also said to be occurring this summer. Though only joining last year, Wayne Rooney is said to departing this summer with a move to MLS side DC United on the cards.

Silva’s appointment fitted Moshiri’s criteria of looking for a manager with new ideas and an upgrade on the style of football Goodison Park had witnessed under Allardyce. The 40-year-old is set to sign a three-year deal at the club on Wednesday and the announcement is expected before the weekend.
