Over the past year, the future of English defender John Stones has been rather unclear, with several clubs looking to pursue the Everton player on a long-term contract. Last year, a majority of reports were linking Stones to a move to London, with Jose Mourinho reportedly interested in bringing the youngster to Chelsea. However, as a result of rejected bids and Stones claiming “to not mean to” hand in a transfer request, he remained at the Toffees for the 2015/16 Premier League season.
This summer, the future of John Stones has been reported on several times, with Chelsea once again interested in pursuing the signature of the youngster. Nevertheless, the transfer rumour on everyone’s lips actually links the Englishman to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, and the rumours are hotting up, could the move be drawing closer?
According to a variety of sources, John Stones was interested in leaving Goodison once again earlier this summer, whilst examining the future of his career, with Manchester City ongoing their pursuit of the defender. Speculation tonight reveals that Stones held a meeting with new Everton manager Robert Koeman, informing him of his intention to leave Everton for a new challenge at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola – admitting he wants to start his preseason with his new club.
Manchester City start their preseason on the 20th July in a friendly against German champions Bayern Munich, if Stones request is successfully granted it leaves approximately a week for the transfer to take place. Everton will be lucky enough to gain a large profit from the transfer, with a fee being speculated as high as £50 million. On top of this, the Toffee’s are also preparing for life without the Englishman, including the audacious £35m offer for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly – with Arsenal and Chelsea also reportedly interested in the player.
Although previous attempts of leaving Goodison Park have been unsuccessful, it is evident that Stones is determined to depart his current club in the current transfer window and begin the next step of his career at Manchester City.
