Everton News Transfer Rumours

According to Everton manager Robert Koeman, Ross Barkley could depart the Toffees in the Summer Transfer Window as various reports debate who his next club will be.

The Englishman’s current contract expires in just over a year’s time, but the manager has revealed that should Barkley not commit his future to the club, he will be sold in the summer rather than be allowed to depart for free the following year.

Losing Ross Barkley would be a big gap to fill, given Everton’s top scorer Romelu Lukaku is also set to leave Goodison Park after wanting to achieve bigger things on a bigger stage. However, Koeman has been publicly open with the futures over the duo, letting the world know if Barkley leaves, it’s because he turned down a contract extension.

“If you offer the player a good contract, it means we want him to stay here. If we don’t want the player to stay longer, we don’t offer him a new contract,” Koeman said in his press conference ahead of Everton’s final game of the season against Arsenal on Sunday. “It is a long time he has been thinking about his future.”

“I am not worried because I like to work with players who like to stay. We will go on and we’re looking for players in that position. If he stays, there will be more competition for him next season.”
