Ademola Lookman has made quite a name for himself after just his first season in the Charlton first team. Since making his way through the ranks in the academy and obtaining a pretty impressive goal record, the 18-year-old England U19 international made his first appearance as a 65th minute substitute in a 1-0 away defeat to MK Dons in November 2015. Lookman then went on to score 3 goals in his first 7 matches, netting his first ever senior goal against Brighton in a 3-2 defeat and bagging a brace against fellow Championship strugglers Bolton.
Charlton’s prize possession managed to create an impressive 32 chances in 24 games; that’s an average of 1.33 chances per game, more than both Raheem Sterling and Theo Walcott. In addition to this, Ademola accumulated 31 successful take-ons; maintaining an impressive success rate of around 43%.
The young sensation is able to play both as a striker or on the wings, predominantly on the left; his ability to beat a man, coupled with his skill means that he often proves to be very problematic for defenders. Lookman netted 3 times with his right foot and twice with his left, proving he is fully aware of where the goal is and he has fantastic ability with both feet.
4 out of Ademola’s 5 league goals last season came from playing as a wide midfielder, a position he played 10 times in total.
However, it is unlikely that Charlton would let their most promising asset leave The Valley on the cheap; it could cost upwards of £5 million in order to prise Lookman away from the League 1 promotion hopefuls.
