Kieran’s Summer Wish List… Midfielders and Strikers

Kieran’s Summer Wish List… Midfielders and Strikers
Jun 2, 2016

Crystal Palace

Centre-Mids

Yohan Cabaye and James McArthur offer a solid duo in the middle of the park, however once you look past our two midfield maestros it is difficult to identify any real back-up player. Jedinak was good towards the end of the season but I feel that the gap in quality between Cabaye and Jedinak is huge.

Name: Michael Carrick

Age: 34

Nationality: English

Club: Manchester United

Market Value: £3 Million

I am fully expecting Carrick to sign a new 1 year deal at Manchester United, however his contract is running out and there is an outside chance that any club could put an appetising offer on the table. If Pardew could sign the English veteran for free it would have to be seen as good business.

Name: Jonjo Shelvey

Age: 24

Nationality: English

Club: Newcastle

Market Value: £9 Million

Shelvey only signed for Newcastle in January, nevertheless his big ego may mean that he goes in search of a Premier League offer. His range and quality of passing is unreal, he can see passes that no-one in our current team would ever dream of making. Shelvey would be a huge asset.

Name: Ryan Mason

Age: 24

Nationality: English

Club: Spurs

Market Value: £5 Million

For the right price Ryan Mason could be a tidy addition to our squad, he will add a bit more depth to what we already have. His career has come to a bit of a standstill at Tottenham and a move may be much welcomed by the Englishman.

Name: Cheik Tiote

Age: 29

Nationality: Ivorian

Club: Newcastle

Market Value: £4.5 Million

I’m not 100% sure what happened to Tiote, I used to rate him extremely highly, however his career has become quite stagnant at Newcastle, pretty much unused last season. Yet another player that has worked and flourished with Pardew in the past, this could be a decent signing for the right price.

Name: Alex Song

Age: 28

Nationality: Cameroon

Club: Barcelona

Market Value: £7.5 Million

Last season wasn’t the biggest success of Song’s career and subsequently West Ham let him return to Barcelona following the expiry of his loan. Nonetheless, we have all seen the quality on offer from his Arsenal days. The 28 year old Cameroon international certainly would not look out of place in South London.

Name: Joe Allen

Age: 26

Nationality: Welsh

Club: Liverpool

Market Value: £6 Million

Once described as the ‘Welsh Xavi’, Allen has not set the world alight at Liverpool. However his impressive Swansea days still carry some credibility. Furthermore, he has already announced that he will be open to talks from other Premier league clubs regarding a move away from Anfield. Pardew would be bonkers to write this move off.

Strikers

Last season Palace averaged 1.03 goals per game, paired with the fact that our top scorer was Dwight Gayle with 7 goals, it is obvious that Pardew will work to recruit a new striker.

Name: Christian Benteke

Age: 25

Nationality: Belgium

Club: Liverpool

Market Value: £22.5 Million

It would be fair to say that Benteke has not adapted to life at Liverpool at all, after signing last summer for a huge £30 million. However, his goal record at Villa was impeccable, 42 goals in 89 Premier League games. I don’t think Steve Parish would have to match anywhere near his current market value in order to seal the deal for the Belgium striker.

Name: Loic Remy

Age: 29

Nationality: French

Club: Chelsea

Market Value: £7.5 Million

Remy used to be the main man for Newcastle and QPR, during the 2013/14 season Remy bagged 14 goals in 26 Premier League games. Similarly to Benteke, Remy left a smaller club where he was first choice for a bigger club where he is now 3rd choice, behind both Costa and Traore. Alan Pardew could help Loic rediscover his shooting boots next season.  But Crystal palace have approached Remy a few times in the past and it has been clear that the French striker does not fancy the move, so it could lead Parish on yet another wild goose chase to sign a striker.

Name: Islam Slimani

Age: 27

Nationality: Algerian

Club: Sporting

Market Value: £11 Million

Slimani has been heavily linked with Palace in the past and this summer it would seem that Leicester have joined the race. Slimani has a goal scoring record that is second to none, scoring 47 goals in 80 games for Sporting in the Primeira Liga and netting 23 times in 43 games for Algeria. I would imagine that the asking price would be a little higher than the market value.

Name: Ross McCormack

Age: 29

Nationality: Scottish

Club: Fulham

Market Value: £6 Million

Fulham were a bit of a disgrace last season and despite McCormack finishing second top scorer in the Championship they finished just 2 places above the drop zone. McCormack played a direct part in 30 of Fulham’s 66 goals last season, which was only bettered by star of the season Andre Gray.

Name: Moussa Dembele

Age: 19

Nationality: French

Club: Fulham

Market Value: £3 Million

Another Fulham striker who impressed last season, scoring 15 times and providing 6 assists. A move to Spurs in January was on the cards, however that deal fell through as Tottenham didn’t match the £12 million asking price. Pardew and Parish would have to act quickly to win the race to land the teenage starlet but he could prove to be a revelation.

Name: Saido Berahino

Age: 22

Nationality: English

Club: West Brom

Market Value: £11 Million

This summer the Berahino saga is set to start up again, another young striker who was set for a move to Tottenham, who bid around £20 million, but the £24 million asking price was too much to expect. This situation has been mishandled on all fronts, with Berahino desperate for a move away from Birmingham and West Brom desperate on sucking every penny out of the deal, but what more do you expect… Tony Pulis is involved. So after 2 years of confusion, it would seem that West Brom will cut their losses and sell Berahino for a fraction of the original asking price. They must feel sick.

Name: Victor Moses

Age: 25

Nationality: Nigerian

Club: Chelsea

Market Value: £5.5 Million

A familiar face to most Palace fans; he left for Wigan Athletic, where he had a really good spell which merited a move to Chelsea. However, after being put on loan and failing to really get a game at Liverpool, Stoke and West Ham it is inevitable that Moses will be free to leave Stanford Bridge this summer. He could be a good addition to the side and a fantastic bargain if we are able to tie this deal up.
