N’Golo Kante Reveals He Turned Down Manchester United Interest

Former Leicester midfielder N’Golo Kante has revealed he turned down Manchester United interest despite José Mourinho attempting to lure the Frenchman via a phone call. N’Golo Kante was Leicester’s catalyst last season and played a huge part in writing history by winning the title under Claudio Ranieri, but the 25-year-old revealed Antonio Conte’s Italian charm had already convinced him to join the London club before Mourinho joined the chase.
Speaking with journalists whilst on International duty, Kante revealed “It was amazing to have Mourinho call me, even though I’d been warned before how he would appeal to me. I listened to his arguments about why I should move to United.”
“But at that time I was hesitant between staying at Leicester or leaving for Chelsea. My discussions with them were already well underway. But when I spoke, I had a good feeling with Conte.”
Kante has made more tackles (109) than any other player in the Premier League in 2016 and has also played every minute of Chelsea’s Premier League campaign so far, in which Chelsea have picked up nine points. With the deadline day addition of David Luiz, Kante may find himself playing alongside the Brazilian in a midfield partnership, if Antonio Conte wishes to deploy the ex/current Chelsea man there, where many say is Luiz’s most effective position.
